Discussion: Uncertain - flat surface - no more than 0.02m thick. Thought that might be postpad, but phytolith material at base - also grey ashy? Deposit immediately below. Subsequently decided that remaining iscolated patch of floor make-up must have been floor(s) above that - have been truncated away or eroded 

 

Recognition: recognised during brush cleaning by colour 

Definition: clear - against platform F. 1317, plaster to East 

Execution: Trowel 

Condition: Dry 

Consistency: Soft/friable - firm 

Colour: Pale brown 

Texture: silt - slightly sandy? 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: Moderate grit; occasional charcoal flecks; occasional bone fragents

Basal Boundary: Abrupt, distinct, smooth, flat, rough - layer of phytolith material at base of context
