Unit 8192
Category: layer dug in 2001
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: floor packing
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: This unit is gray packing underneath earliest floor of F.162. It is very differentfrom unit 8191- perhaps ( and down at a different time? Because the material of the unit is doughnut shaped. The midpoint was taken in the southern edge- where shown on drawing.
Southern edge colors Northern side colors
7.5 YR 6/4 top layer: 10 YR 6/4- light brown
10YR 5/3 lower layers: 10YR 5/2 and inc. greyish
5 YR 5/3
The Northeastern section of the unit had fewer inclusions than the rest of the unit and was a slightly different color (see above). On the southern side ( and grading into the north-west side) The inclusions were charcoal, burnt clay, and building material. There was also a burnt layer (area) of charcoal / gray material. This unit was 10-15cm thick in some areas (mainly S and NW)and only 5-7cm in others ( mainly NE and N)
The unit came down into a thin plaster floor with a wall junction in the East. The floor in the north end of the unit sloped up towards the north wall. There appears to be floor repairs in the the northwest end of the unit as well. Through dry sieving small amounts of animal bone and obsidian were removed. In addition, a separate flotation sample for the area immediately above the floor was taken S9, because the concentration of occuptational remains is expected to be higher just above the floor rather than in the packing matrix as a whole. Samples for ICP, Phytolith, phosphate analysis were taken from both the north and south areas of the unit because of the different nature of the deposits.
