Data Category Information: none
Dimensions: 90cm N-S X 98cm E-W
Discussion: Removal of localized floor surface -very little plaster only in patches and a small semicircular (~2cm thick) area near the oven (F. 646). This will all be taken as one unit and taken to the level of the white floor in the southern area of unit 8211. See sketch. The packing was incredibly thick (~ 20cm) and extended from the basin lip (8211) to the oven feature. The packing was very heterogenous with some areas (esp. near the oven) displaying burning. There was also a change in the contours of the packing near the oven where the localized patch of floor had been. In the central area the packing also gave way to an interesting sandy layer directly above the white floor. Was this a packing technique? Currrently, it appears as if the western interior wall rests on to of a previous floor so we will need to take that out completley to expose our floors. We will also need to take out the oven (F. 646) fairly soon.
The black sooty deposits near the oven on the packing-type material will be taken as sample 3. - Once the area near the oven (F. 646) and pit (F. 750) were exposed further I realized that the area where the floor becomes irregular is actually a feature that lies under what was the semi-circular loacalized floor I discussed earlier. Thus, when a feature number is assigned, S3 will belong to that feature.
S4 is the organic/ black "crust" that is directly above the white floor. This is patchy in most areas but is abundant in the areas near the former F. 758 and screen wall.
This feature goes below both the oven (F. 646), the pit (F. 750).
*** there is a large animal hole that begins in this unit (under the packing) and appears to continue through the oven (F. 646)
