Unit 8228
Category: layer dug in 2001
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: floor of the hearth
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: Unit 8228 is part of the new fire installation discovered in the eastern part of F. 169- platform. This feature (776) lies partly beneath F. 764 (fire installation) and most probably spreads to the east, beyond the line of the platform extension/bathtub-like cut (F. 775). The floor of F. 776 is made of scorched black clay, traces of which are found all around the installation itself. Due to high temperatures all this area is full of ash or ashy deposits, bits of charcoal and scorched clay. Layers are mixed and not easy to identify since we can't rely on colour, shape, or consistency here. Even the original floor of the platform extension is hard to recognize because it was exposed to fire or was very close to fire.
