Unit 8284
Category: layer dug in 2001
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: floor packing
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: This unit involved the continued excavation of the SE corner of sp 201; bldg 3; including part of niche (8144, 8149). Excavation included the removal of the thick packing layer involved the previous plaster floor (8282). Removal of this layer revealed the remains of a damaged greyish floor; also revealed the layer portion of the plaster wall in the niche. The plaster wall defining the niche continues to be visible which indicates that it had been constructed earlier than previously thought; the visible stratigraphy shows the northern end of the unit was plastered repeatedly and more frequently than other areas of the unit; these repeated plastering consist of very thin layers of plaster and packing. The plaster and packing layers visible in other areas the unit are fewer and thicker. This may be related to the more intensive foot traffic in the north area of this unit which would have been the entrance to this space. The rest of this area may have been used for storage and would have required fewer plasterings due to less foot traffic. The entrance was likely on the west end. This would have been a storage area next to the kitchen.
