Unit 8641
Category: layer dug in 2003
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: mortar
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: The unit comprises the top 3-5 layers of mortar in the northern wall of building 3. It is typical mortar with inclusions, except for the layer above the 9th row of bricks (counted from the bottom), which was chunkier and with higher percentage of clay (S3). There are two x-finds (unit 8642) - pottery fragments.
S3 - it is taken from the 3rd layer of mortar from the highest part of the wall. It is more clayey than the regular "top" mortar, which is the reason it was collected as a sample (the rest of the soil was send to the dry sieve as part of unit 8642).
S4 - midden mortar (or post midden) underneath the last brick of the bottom and on top of an earlier wall.
