Interpretive Categories: skeleton of a L. Roman burial

Data Category Information: none

Dimensions: W-E 2.5 m x N-S 0.5 m

Discussion: This individual is extended dorsally from W to E in the typical Late Roman/Byzantine style. The body is fully extended with the exception of the flexed left hand. The skeleton was well preserved; however, due to the wet soil and the dry conditions at exposure, many of the bones are fragmentary. This individual appears to be an old adult male, based upon the degenerative joint deseases, antemortem tooth loss, cranial structure closure and morphology of the pelvis.
Traces of reddish brown wood were uncovered beneath the cranium, scapulae and innominates.
