Weather: hot, only occasional strong gales
Due to constant problems with the Total Station, digging activity was quite slow in trench 5 today, but the mood was much better than the day before.
Sedef and Nejat cleaned down between 972.00 N and unit 13716 (dug by Jonathan and Catriona) with unit 13720 to expose a possible molhole or pit fill ith very soft soil. We are still not sure how this connects with the ashy spots in soft soil towards the east profile and the mudbrick grave feature 2403.
Jonathan and Catriona dug out a big spot of very looe soil (unit 13731) in which very disturbed human bones became visible.
After drawing feature 2403, Gulay and Burcin dug down into the fill of this grave (unit 13727).
In the east extension of trench 5, another strip of plaster (13735) just like in the SE corner of the main trench (13726) , appeared directly after removal of topsoil 13723.
In trench 6, cleaning (Naiose, Nick, Christoph) and drawing (Tom) continued. Unit numbers are assigned to all possible grave structures to be dug by the Selcuk team. An ashy spot (posthole, fireplace?) 1m S of the N profile within a round structure of very hard grey loamy soil with human infant bones sticking out proves difficult to indentify. I do not think this hard stuff is a pit fill.
Nowadays I can hardly find spare time and eough sleep: Peter, Burcin and me go to the trench at 6 AM to discuss (which is really necessary), work until 3 PM, then I have two hours to have shower, do laundry stuff and eat something, then the two hours for office work are not enough to do both trenches, and there's hardly a point in delegatong work like putting one missing numer on this sheeet and one more word on this sheet. After dinner, team meeting, then these days usually a seminar, after that there's still the diary, and then it is 9:30 and this is already too late for getting enough sleep.Entered By: ER |
