Entry: | Jason and I have decided that its about time I did a video diary for my building- which I'll do tomorrow- so I wanted to write a diary entry as much to gather my thoughts about the progress in building 58 Have been trying really hard to get the building back into some kind of phase. I started by taking away some of the floors of the main floor area of space 227 hoping that I'd release some of the features- particularly the platforms and hopefully get down to a good floor that extended across the building. This week I got down to a nice packing layer - unit 13230 that covered most of the main floor area. After rather a dry spell manged to get some finds- the odd sherd of pot and obsidian blade- when I removed this unit. Directly below was a really nice plaster floor- 13239- which again seemed to extend right across F2129. Actually it even seems to extend up against the east side of the hearth and toward the oven- where we thought there'd be an interface to 'dirty floors'. Hopefully this will become clear. Unfortunately I still haven't managed to release any of the platforms by coming down to this floor.
The painted plaster on walls F2001 and F2000 was drawn and recorded by John. Hopefully- once this is removed -it will allow wall F2001 to come out. We think this wall was put up to help support F2001 which had slumped considerably. However it was built on top of ridge F2193 which in turn is sitting on some of the floors that I have removed. I have been digging out of sequence because of the painted plaster. The paint itself is quite interesting as both walls have a similar stripe of paint at about the same height on the wall. The paint on F2000 clearly follows a 'ripple'/ furrow in the plaster.
Today have started on the hearth- F2122- which has certainly been released. Actually we now think what is there at the minute may be a later phase of the hearth which at the minute is 'floating' out of sequence from the rest of the house. Looking forward to taking it out and hopefully making some sense of the south end of the building. My big plan now is to try to pull the building back into phase from both ends. However time and logistics could prove a problem.
Finally whilst removing the floor surfaces a couple of features were revealed towards the north end of F2129. Colleen- digging a small pit yesterday- F2253- found a small amount of fairly worn obsidian, as well as what appeared to be a fragment of a stamp seal-(now this is not certain) and a complete marine shell. I want to make sure these features are all tied up before I leave. Wish I could dig right through winter!Entered By: MCD |
