Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: Today was spent knocking out more of unit 14217. Nothing especially interesting to report, except that I made a mistake over an area of more compacted sediment - it appears, half-way through excavating this deposit that it is actually coherent mud-brick in places. Whether it is anything meaningful is not yet apparent, but it seems bits of it might be. Equally, it may be wall collapse, but I think it likely that something meaningful will come from it. It seems that there is an entire area covered by mud-bricks, creating a mud-brick surface. Some of these may be redeposited, but it seems to be the edge of the softer part of the midden. Half the time though it's beginning to feel like drawing arbitrary lines in a dust pit. I'm trying to work from what we know and follow it, but things appear and disappear as the colours change during the day. Eva doesn't want changes marked into the dirt any more and this is making things harder to follow, to spot patterns. However the whole area is a bit messed up by all the previous burials, and until we get lower nothing nice will come up.Entered By: Alex Pryor
