Excavation Diary Entry

Name: Naomi Christie
Team: West-Buffalo/Camb
Date: 7/1/2007
Entry: U14239 - area I have been working on with Ros. Photographed it today. Holes are difficult to photograph, because they make their own shade. The thing was eventually two interlinked pits, most likely part of an animal burrow. So anyway, difficult to photograph as either the pit was underexposed, and the surface fine, or the surface over-exposed and the pit fine. There's a plaster line inside the pits, which runs from one to the other, I tried to show that in the photo, it was clearer in real life.

U14238 - Grave on East edge of T5, bones and shape of grave visible.

U14223 - soil discolouration that could be mud brick. U13797 - criss-cross pattern found last year.

T7 - These photos lack scale on the whole, and show the section in the deep sounding bit. Two skulls (west), some stratigraphic layers (north).

OK, so we had sheepdogaphobia yesterday. Today I thought I had a grass-seed in my shoe, and when I went to remove it found a perfectly round red dot, that seemed to be eating into my ankle. I remembered my Duke of Edinburgh hike talk on the danger of blood poisoning and tics, and ran out into the courtyard to seek a first-aider, convinced I was a gonner. After wielding my ankle at three different people with much pomp and fuss, Mike came along and said "Who told you that was a tic, go and wash it, if it doesn't come off then come back." It was, after all, just a scab.Entered By: N. Christie
