Entry: | I'm very frustrated. I had just written a pleasant account of todays events, but "computer says no". My text vanished before my eyes as I entered the unit numbers box. I must remember to save. Nevermind, but sadly, this account will be more brief.
Today Helen and I removed the mudbrick lining (unit 13725) from grave feature 2403. We removed the south and the east sides. The north side was removed last season (2006), and the west side was left intact to prevent any potential collapse from the slope above.
We then removed some remaining topsoil on the baulk in trench 6 next to feature 2403.
The highlight of my day was finding a piece of shiny glazed smooth wheel-thrown pottery. The sherd is allegedly c 2nd century, embedded in the mudbrick, whilst the grave itself is a later date of c 4th century. It reminded me of one of the first finds I stumbled across early on in my archaeological venture fieldwalking. Very nice sherd.
To make the day even better, I was reunited with my Colgate toothpaste on returning this afternoon having not seen it this morning.
I look forward to tomorrow, and shortly, a beer!Entered By: TEB |
