Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: Today was the longest day in the history of the world, ever. Maybe a combination of lack of sleep and it being the first full day of excavation for TEB and myself. We found ourselves back in the feature surrounding last year's grave 13746 again, but this time focussing on the mudbricks- where they were, what they were hiding and where they were going.

It took us a while. After deciding that such and such a brick was a little more yellow than the one underneath it, and whether it was really a brick at all, TEB and myself soon became masters at brick detection and subsequent destruction. No mean feat given that they were rather hefty to shift with a trowel (14235). Little bits of pot, bone and obsidian were found inbetween, but nothing amazing.
Was highly jealous of AJEP's snazzy grave though nothing exciting has appeared yet. Equally, the NW corner of trench 5 seems to be becoming crowded and am rather glad that my morale is not affected by the numerous animal burrows. Just to miff us off, the small squirrel-rat hybrids come to sit by the trench and grin menacingly. Next year, TEB will bring air rifle.

Labwork a little tedious tonight despite KH's company, though cant help feeling that many nights will be spent sorting through the already mounting backlog of human-faunal remains from the West Mound. I'm praying for a pelvis. That would make my week.Entered By: HSL
