Entry: | 21st July - 116 now ready to go. All sorts of peculiar bits and pieces in a pretty poor state of preservation. Priority tour - everything still in preliminary stages, but we will get a few numbers. The skeleton in 112, (skele 2842) has a shell with red ochre in it beneath the skull. This is more and more interesting. One could assume the ochre was ground in the mortar then put in the shell then buried. I’ve never believed pigment in shells is women’s make-up, as Mellaart suggested, and it’s nice to get some with a juvenile now. Unfortunately it’s age makes sexing less likely. I still think pigments may relate to cause of death or something of that nature. Other finds are starting to come in - a figurine that looks like a goat; and various beads, some from re-sorting of 96 flots. I’m determined to keep up to date with recording, but have a computer problem at present.Entered By: Naomi Hamilton |
