| Entry: | 23rd July. Frustrating day - now that everything is clean and planned and ready, I wanted to take out the fill that’s been left in sections, but it’s not that simple. Already there’s the question of what is fill and what is object, in areas which looked ok. Then the priority tour took far too long, and we had a short pm as we had a site tour, so I still feel I haven’t really made a start. There may be a pit in the SW corner - it looks like that in plan and the shallow section, but one side isn’t certain, so it’s not clear whether the large plaster object on the S of the blocked crawlhole is in the pit fill or next to the pit. On the whole I feel the only way to get to grips with these mouldings - if that is what they are - is to get rid of the room fill so they can be defined clearly, but because the plaster outer layer is damaged or missing is so many areas, it is not clear what is room fill and what is moulding fill, ie. which of the many plaster layers is an outer one.
