Entry: The south-west corner of trench 5 looked very neat and tidy today. I worked with Naomi when she wasn’t off photographing (which she did a lot of today). We took out the remainder of layer 14287 in order to expose the next yellowish layer beneath, which has provisionally been labeled unit 14295 (for the western part of the trench at least). I really enjoyed the relaxing and satisfying task of straightening, cleaning and generally ‘neatening up’ the profiles (north, west, and south sides). In doing so, a vessel, unit 15308, in the south profile (the trench profile) became loose. There is roughly half of the ceramic vessel present in one large and one smaller sherd. Clinging to the interior region of this vessel was a large blocky mass which was carefully removed for sampling. I washed up the vessel this evening and showed Ingmar.

I was unable to help Gen in Trench 7 this afternoon unfortunately – Katy and Gen were drawing the northern deep section profile and so my hands were not needed! I look forward to going to help tomorrow as I haven’t really spent any time in the trench. Instead, I took my leave for a nice shower pampering session, before checking over some unit sheets in time to get started on some pot washing, of which the West Mound has masses to do and needs to get on with.

Other than that, I look forward to watching Rome a little later on. Salve!Entered By: TEB
