End of the second full week of excavation. Have removed three spits of infilling from each of the internal spaces of Building 5. The infilling is all relatively homogenous and clean. It contains quite a lot of building debris, especially brick and plaster fragments, which visually at least appear as if they might be derived from the walls of Building 5. There is also some other material in their which looks like it might have come from off mound as it is so clean. After removing the infilling we cleaned up and I took some photographs, I will probably take some more on Saturday morning. On Saturday we will also draw all the surrounding elevations/sections and do a base plan if Jim has put the grid in.
Building 5 is now showing through really clearly so that you can get a real feeling for the Building and its internal spaces. This is still very broad brush as none of the internal features and other details are discernible yet, hopefully they will begin to show through within the next couple of weeks when we remove more of the infilling.Entered By: Craig Cessford |
