Entry: Both the skeletons in Trench 9 and 10 were lifted yesterday. Lesley lifted skeleton (15607) F.2844 in Trench 9 F.2485, while Marin and I lifted skeleton (15608) in Trench 10. This is the first skeleton I have excavated and lifted, and thus Marin came up to show me how to lift it, also making the process much faster, which is important as that time is becoming a more significant problem with the foundation trenches. Most people in 4040, especially the people in the trenches are staying up late on site (excavating until about 5 for so), during that time I was able to plan the cuts (Trench 10 [15421], Trench 9 [15436]) of the graves and excavate the grave goods of skeleton (15608).

Today was a pretty miserable day just with the wind, there was so much dust in the air the sky was grey and the lighting was as though it were a cloudy day. I spent today working on excavating Trench 9. The fill (15496) is not associated with any architecture visible from the trench, and thus it is uncertain whether it is room fill, or a fill outside of a building. The fill ended up being much more complicated than expected, but that is the way it always is. Throughout the entire layer were bits of a disarticulated skeleton that from the bits was probably between 5-7 years old. There were not even any clusters or a single level it was on. Because the fill was so hard, it was actually easier to get bigger pieces by mattocking as opposed to troweling. The fill was sieved and the human bones separated from the rest of the finds. The layer (15496) ended onto a new fill (15666) which is darker and ashier than 15496. This will also probably be the last layer in the trench as that there are only 14cm until I reach foundation level.Entered By: Marina Lizarralde
