| Entry: | A good day on the mound today- not too hot and only a little windy. Was supposed to be in lab this week but have gone back to excavating to help Mike and Freya in Building 59. I've been working mostly in S 276, first taking off the final floor before hitting room fill (14641) and then stripping the plaster off the walls (14741). Also helped Anies today with his foundation trench in S. 276. Nothing too remarkable or problematic in those units, which was a nice change. We hit midden in the foundation trench, and will finish excavating that tomorrow.
Last week I finished on Thursday by digging part of FT 22 with Andrew. Luckily, we had no floors come up, only room fill, so we cleared out about 1300 liters of fill with a mattock and shovel. We found an animal scapula a little way in along the W wall of the trench, but it was not on a floor, just in the room fill. We bagged it separately but didn't take coordinates. It was more or less in the middle of the western wall, about 20 cm out into the trench, and about 50cm down from the top. The fill had a great deal of charcoal in it, and some bone, but what we took out had little or no color change.
It's weird to know that tomorrow is my last full day of excavation (if I am excavating at all-- I don't know whether or not I have to go back to lab at some point). It's been quite a month, and it's going to be a jolt to leave.Entered By: Bear |
