| Entry: | A week in to the 2008 season and I am ready to start excavation in Building 49 once more, where I am to be working for the rest of the season. Excavation of building 49 was started by a team from Stamford University in 2004, and continued by Jody D. and myself in 2006. The building was cleared of sandbags and cleaned yesterday. Today was mainly spent taking photographs, conserving areas of wall plaster and setting up the site grid. Tomorrow we may even get to begin excavating!
This season I will be working with Louise and Colleen and we are hoping to completely excavate the building, removing all internal floors and architectural features. Having seen the sequence of deposits again today, with between 0.20-0.40m of finely laminated floors, numerous architectural phases, and potentially many burials (Colleen found the first today) I am very aware that we will have our work cut out. Maybe it will less complex than it looks? |
