Work in Space 289: Conservators, conserving and removing the deer antler which we found as a cluster under the floor level of space 289. The basket in the same area, identified by Phil, lies on top of the antler. Two ground stones should have been in the basket. Başak, excavates the baby skeleton (F. 2325) found under the same floor of Space 289. She/he is in a quite well state. It has a clay ball on his/her chest, said Başak.
The complete pot (13970) next to the southwest corner of the red-plastered platform (2328) on the floor (2319) of Space 284 is removed by Duygu and Nurcan. The body and the base of the pot is quite well preserved. Its mouth is broken, the body has cracks, but can be restored and completed. It is a jar with a dark surface/dark face, well burnished, and has two lugs.
We continue documenting, then removing the kerpiç and mortar courses of the kerpiç platform/pavement (?) (1971), lying south of Building 63. The present interpretations about these kerpiç pavement/platforms are: 1. they all are placed parallel to the north and/or south wall of the buildings. Considering the orientation of the houses in relation to the orientation of the kerpiç pavement/platform, and the size of the blocks, the way they were built, one can think that they function as supporting walls for the buildings. 2. Since the area is close to the edge of the settlement, close to Çarşamba river, they might have functioned as foundation for the buildings as well. |
