Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: Infuriatingly, my last diary entry seems to have been mostly deleted. It contained a summary of the days events, a detailed expose of my hopes and fears and a rather fine limerick which I don't think I can recreate. Oh well.

So today Sonya and I were sorting out our grave cut again and trying to find where the walls which we can see in section were going. I also mattocked out the Eastern end of the grave cut to bring it down to the same level as the bottom of the grave and the are to the East. These units comprising a plaster layer (16808), some loose and undefinable mud bricks (16830) and a bit of compacted fill (16829). Diary going a bit mad again and deleting what I'm writing. Basically its good to finally get some understandable architecture, particularly wall 2426 which is cut by our grave, but nothing is particularly clear yet. At least we finally have a sieve sorted. Had a look in the deep sounding in trench 7 (from the precarious top of the Eastern section) and it is very interesting. I hope we can get some workers or a JCB to extend the trench and follow some of the really clear floor layers. The relationship with the river is also quite cool.

The rota says I'm clay balling today so have to go. Will write more tomorrow when hopefully we will have some spaces or even a building to include…
