Entry: Today we were engaged in a lot of cleaning. We had to try and identify the relationships between a series of walls in the north-west corner of Trench 5, which Jana and Katy were drawing. It gave us all a bit of a headache and still we have no real consensus on what's going on - hopefully it will be resolved tomorrow. I think it would be easier just to make use of the drawing conventions provided - draw a line of 'uncertainty' until we can fully "ink" it in so to speak.

Other than that, Maxim, Sonia and Jemima were taking down unit 16838. In cleaning this they exposed the fill of yet another pit. This has been assigned the unit numbers 16874 and 16875 respectively. Whilst I agree that the area is heavily disturbed, the irregular shape of the pit, in conjunction with the large sizeable zones of compaction (perhaps room fill?), would lead me to assume that what we have, as has been the case many times before, is a highly concentrated area of animal disturbance. Whether or not it is a pit, or a heavily mixed heterogenous fill with animal disturbance, it still needs to be lifted first before we can continue taking out the earlier room fill.

We are half way through our season today, and it seems slightly frustrating that pits keep appearing and holding us up, especially as is the case with spaces 340 and 341. I would be inclined to be more hasty so we can expose the architecture.
