| Entry: | Despite our efforts to lift the disturbance 16861, Jana, Maxim and Katy unveiled a new feature. Another grave! I think some members of the Selcuk team will be returning to tackle this grave in order to allow us to excavate the room fills of spaces 340 and 341.
The pit we 'defined' yesterday, fill 16874, turned out to be quite unclear and undefinable. Instead, it was decided to take the layer down as an arbitrary spit until we were able to define the fill more clearly/or not - layer 16879. I was able to contribute a little today with some mild mattocking and some troweling. This layer will continue tomorrow no doubt.
I think that these disturbances will hold us up more than I had previously predicted. Rather than knocking them out quickly, we keep re-assessing at intervals with planums. This keeps us safe from destroying any further mudbrick walls, but it also slows us down. Hopefully we will be able to see some architecture before the season is over - that is my main aim. |
