Entry: Another fun day. Katie and me removed more of the roomfill 16859 and then began cleaning the plaster on its walls. It turned out that in fact only the uppermost 5cm or less are plaster, underneath is seems to be completely missing, but instead we encountered another remarkable feature. A layer of phytoliths is covering what seems to be the face of the wall. This layer makes the roomfill peel off nicely. It seems to be covering all wall faces nearly entirely, except from some parts that are disturbed by animal holes and some other parts where we do not yet know what is happening and why we cannot find a layer of phytoliths. We also do not know why we sometimes find these phytolith layers in several layers, it looks very similar to mulitphased wall plaster, just that it is not plaster. Hopefully we will be able to solve these questions when we expose more of the walls, up to now we are only ca. 20cm deep. It could also be very helpful to ask Flip what she thinks about the whole thing.
