Excavation Diary Entry

Name: TEB
Team:
Date: 8/2/2008
Entry: Today we were able to make significant progress moving a great deal of spoil. Room fill 16896 is in the process of being removed. Once removed, we will be surrounded by walls! It seems that we have three buttresses which are similar in their arrangement to relatively contemporary buildings from Canhasan.

We are sieving the entire unit because we have not sieved a room fill yet. Once we are able to recognise the quantity of finds from the unit we will be able to decide whether we will sieve all room fills or fast track them.

Katy and Jana exposed the plaster wall from space 341, and tomorrow the same process will be repeated for space 340.

16892 and 16893 are the cut and fill, respectively, of another probable late grave (with orange/burnt mudbricks) in the eastern area of trench 5. It is extremely difficult to recognise and might be cut by another grave just to the east. Hopefully things will become clearer in the next few days in order so that the grave can be removed before the Selcuk team leave.

Sonia and Maxim maintained working in their area, on the west side of Trench 5, removing layers of erosion and disturbance in order to define the walls and likely room fill of another space.
