Entry: | Today Eva and I were investigating the plaster along walls 5051 and 2424. It is pretty strange as it apears to slope inward on both profiles and therefore to undercut itself. PFB wants it to be a ceiling and has decided a meepmeep hole tom dug out in the wall was in fact a post-hole or niche for timber. I'msceptical, to say the least, which seems to be my role in ternch 5. Im going to read the Can Hasan report now as apparently David French had similar stuff there, as well as buttresses which sound a bit like ours. Unfortunate that TEB's foot prevents him from working, but I think it will do our documentation good to have a central hub. If wedo get a siever then the division of labour will almostbe complete. Not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand it is useful to have the freedom to simply excavate a context and leave everything elseto others, but on the other I think this approach could lead to blasé archaeology with little regard fro context and interpretation until after the event. Today I also had some thoughts on stratigraphy and interpretation. The pressure of the unit system and SCR can make people more wary about stratigraphy and perhaps more concerned with digging the right thing at the right time than understanding what is happening. More on this later. Anyway, straat is just a tool. Have to do pottery bye. |
