Entry: Thursday and this morning I cleaned the walls of space 340, so that it is now in a state that we could also leave it for next year if we run out of time. While cleaning it became clear that all walls F 5050, 5054/ 5053, 5052 and 2428 are plastered. The plaster is different from the one in Alex's room, which is thick and white, but I am quite sure that it is plaster, as it has at least two phases and is visible in the profile of the wall as a pale yellow line. All walls are badly truncated by animal burrows, especially 2428 in the north looks quite bad, also because it is so dried out and crumbly.

This afternoon Katie, Sonja and me scraped the middle area of the trench, between Katie's and my room, and afterwards it seemed quite clear that F 5054/ 5053 and 5057 are in fact not walls but butresses. I began removing the soil in between (17222) and now is it obvious that this assumption is true for 5053/ 5054 and also 5052. This means that Katie's and my space, and also that corner where Sonja is working, in fact belong to one room which has at least three very long butresses that leave only a bit of open space in the middle of the room. We will have to prove this by scraping more around 5057. Furthermore we have to clarify what structures there are in the area where Sonja has been removing the pottery cluster in the last days, and how this all relates to the numerous plaster lines = walls/ butresses that Jemima has found in the NE corner.

I am quite happe about the butress thing, because this means that we have not been overseeing walls all the time.
