Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: Today I was mainly excavating the baby skeleton with Brenda. There are no legs but the rest is fine. Mostly I was thinking about bourdieu's concept of the habitus whilst excavating. The fact that the baby was a neonate really got me into ideas of acculturation. I then started excavating the disturbance in wall 5051 which turned out to be a pit. Clearly, this is later than the wall and the baby skeleton. The pit also contained a human arm bone the name of which has currently escaped me, possibly from the grave above it. I then found a load of late burial style tiles an orangey mud brick which we have found predominantly associated with the late burials as well. During this time I was thinking about Mann's concepts of power and the possibility that the pit had been dug at the behest of some kind of agent in some kind of position of power. It all reminded me of Wittgenstein's principle of non-contradiction. Bintliff talks about this. I do not know how well he is paid.

Have decided to treat the diary as sensibly as preceding entries. Precedent is all in archaeology.
