Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: Back on the West Mound. We arrived last week late Sunday night and started working in the trench on Tuesday. The three days were spent with cleaning (unit 18300) and the first bit of excavating in Space 343 (Unit 18301) .
Today I started excavating in Space 310, which should be excavated until floor level this season. While cleaning it became clear that a lot of animal holes disturb the roomfill, which was apparently also visible in the artefact spectrum last season. I decided to empty the animal holes (Unit 18304) before starting a new spit (Unit 18303) of the room fill. Hopefully I identified all of them.
The walls of 310 are covered in thick layers of plaster. It might be possible that the bottom level of at least on of the walls (F 5058) is already reached, as there is no more plaster is visible in the last 5cm. This will become clearer after the next spit, hopefully.
The fill contains a lot of large pot sherds. In the NW corner and along the W wall (F. 5058) a large amount of large animal bones clustered.

I also had a look on the documentation for Space 310 from the last two years, which was not too extensive, unfortunately.
