Excavation Diary Entry

Name: TEB
Team:
Date: 8/12/2009
Entry: PTW and JFB managed to define the northern limits of cut 18306 (fill 18305). The northern limit of the cut was mistaken in previous days and it was not until today that its true extent was realized. The cut in its northern boundary is shaped in the form of two semi-circles laying side by side, perhaps attributed to human activity rather than an irregular concentration of animal disturbance.

SRW and OMV continued in space 342, continuing unit 18311. Today they uncovered a cluster (18325) of obsidian blades in 18311. I strongly believe that 18311 is the room fill of space 342 that needs to be lifted in order to expose any surface further down. A ‘bench’, or architectural feature of some sort has been observed but needs further definition before any certain understanding can be gained.

SO and EMM recorded the large area of disturbance that crosses into spaces 340 and 341. The disturbance (18324) will hopefully be lifted in the next few days in order to expose the room fill and any cut walls of the two spaces.

JMR continued to define and record the four clusters (18319, 18320, 18321 and 18323) in space 310, embedded in room fill 18318. The clusters may indicate a surface or floor close beneath as they appear to be stood upright.

Today I managed to help excavate unit 18314, the room fill in space 343. I was satisfied that the pace of excavation increased to a level where we can look forward to lifting all the fill and defining the limits of the space, hopefully exposing any floor/surfaces and possible architectural features. The first of the daily sketches have been finished today, which I will continue from now on a daily basis.
