Entry: | PTW, JFB and myself continued in space 343 lifting unit 18314. We decided to fast track the unit, but after a few hours, realised that our dry sieve finds would not be representative of the entire fill of 343, so we went back to dry sieving and hope to complete the unit tomorrow. The unit beneath, 18342, will be exposed tomorrow. In the western section of the step in the trench defining the western limits of space 343, we discovered that we had conveniently exposed a wall which appears to define the western limits of space 343. Internally, space 343 may be very similar to spaces 340 and 341, divided by internal buttresses, as the photographs taken today appear to show what might be an unplastered buttress. This would also explain the jutting out of wall 5074 in the north of space 343, a buttress that has been heavily disturbed.
SO and EMM continued in space 345, where they discovered a disturbance in the south-eastern quarter which is clearly defined as some sort of pit containing a burnt lense of charcoal that has tentatively been identified as oak (18338).
JMR excavated into unit 18326 in space 310 where she has been able to expose more of the elevations in the lower part of the walls defining the space.
SRW and ER continued in sapce 342 where it seems that their layer 13828 |
