Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: We have almost entirely removed the midden sequence in building 86!!! The midden layers are not different from what recorded in the previous midden excavations, and showed by RR in his seminar on middens: all the layers present, in fact, a large quantity of ash, or ash lenses. There is also a large quantity of inclusions of charcoal. The other inclusions are mainly composed of animal bones. We found pits (19102/-19103, 19110/-19112, 19111/-19113). We documented also a fire spot (19104/- 19105). Between the layers components there are often small pieces of marl, plaster reduced in powder, bricks reduced in powder, and small pieces of bricks. They should probably mark a wall or building demolition activity. Yesterday we cleaned the wall [5024]. It collapsed in the past, and presents a high iclination toward south (between 30 and 45°). We was told by Shahina that as soon as we finished excavating and documenting the midden, we will have discussed a strategy to secure the wall and us. But today we concurred with CA that is better to cut a piece of the wall. Tomorrow we are going to document it and then we cut it off. I am glad of this decision, because finally we can clean the structure and start working properly.
