Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: After working on burial unit 15155, F. 3318 for 2 days now, it definitely does not have lower limbs in the near vinicity of the grave cut area. Though, JMR and PTW have found some lower limb fragments in their unit directly east (unit 15161), approximately 0.5 meters and more down slope from the burial. These may be associated with each other. The skeleton itself has had a few interesting items appear - red ochre near the right pelvis (or, where it would have been if it was present), yellow ochre on either side of the cranium at ear level, and an obsidian flake protruding out from under the sternum. The two suspected ochre samples were taken for identification, but the obsidian flake will need to be defined on whether it was fallen into the thoracic cavity from the grave fill, or if it was present in the chest of the individual prior to burial. It was really hot today, and I was in the sun for a bit, so I was getting a bit frustrated quickly with myself and others.

Another unit that started to produce human remains, and possibly a skeleton burial, is unit 15146 where I started working at the end of the day while JMR and LKH completed the drawing of F 3318 for me. 15146 appears to be disturbed, although there are a number of elements that are articulated. I had gotten the left foot revealed before the end of the day. This unit appears to have only lower limb parts - maybe this is associated with the unit above it that was missing a number of lower limb parts unit 15142 skeleton.
