Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: I spend the day with digging the eastern part of unit 15160. The S-E corner seems to be disturbed by animal burrows right where we would expect the corner of the walls 5067 and 3324. The situation in the N-E corner became clearer. The cluster with the sherds sticking vertically in the ground is apparently right in the corner of the space located, formed by wall 3324 and a buttress in unit 15158. Finding the outline of the wall 3324 wasn`t easy, as the soil there is so hard, dried out and trampled that I hardly could see where the plasterline is. It turned out that this plaster line was disutrbed, and is only visible in the planum. The space in front of wall 3324 appeared to me quite "empty" , at least in comparision to the rest of the unit. Only 2 x-finds and a few sherds and bone.
But, last but not least: Right in front of the wall 3324 there is a really nice part of floor preserved, being located in the N-E - corner.
Interesting for the next day of excavation will be the connection between unit 15160 and unit 15158, and I would like to have a second look at the east-side of feature 5057, because several sherds of my pottery-cluster were sticking in the wall (I mean behind the line that we defined as a plaster). I`m looking forward to clear all these issues of this dumping event in space 449 on Saturday.
Maybe it is also worthy to note that the big pottery clusters are located at the walls and corners, while the center of the room contains more small finds. I think this dumping system is quite logical, I wouldn`t do it any other way, because by storing the bigger garbage at the walls and the smaller stuff in the center of the room, the storing space enhances (in contrast to dumping everything straight away in the center of the room, which would block the walls and consequently dumping space).
