Entry: We finished removing the top soil (15345) today, brushed and fotographed the trench extension afterwards. Already, archaeological contexts start appearing. Over Sp.342, directly on the trench section, a cluster of human bones (F.3340) was found, excavated and documented by JFB. The northern part of it was probably removed in 2006 or 2007.
The fill over Sp.454 had many colours and sherds, it seems disturbed and probably represents a continuation of the massive Byzantine or post-Byzantine pit F.3331. The fill over the southern part of Sp.342 is hard in the west and very soft in the east. Over the western part of Sp.342, colour differences forming lines appeared and might already represent Chalcolithic architecture, what would be very exciting.

After finished the topsoil unit 15345, we decided to divide the trench extension into three areas. The fill over Sp.454 and the late pit F.3331 is excavated by JHB and RHB as U.15351. The fill over the southern part of Sp.342 is excavated as U.15350 by EMM, DKK, CMB and HLS. The fill east of Sp.342 and 343, where the potential structures are visible, as excavated as U.15349 by JFB, PTW and DLG. All three units are arbitrary layers that will be excavated to a depth of 5-15cm, depending on the very irregular topography, to provide a nice planum to be able to see structures.

The workmen continued clearing the rest of the trench from sandbags.
