Entry: | Entry for the last 2 days, after my computer finally agreed to let me write my diary.
I started excavating U15361 in space 450, continuing on from the end of season 2011. The unit consists of roomfill, with various inclusions. There were a few large vessel sherds in the W end (cooking pot, storage jar base, painted vessel), lying near some charcoal. The cooking pot in base was lying bottom-up on a large patch of white plaster coated with red. Gradually the outline of the white patch emerged further to the east in a fairly regular trapezoid shape in front of the buttress F5052. PFB suggested this might be an installation, or a floor, connecting to a similarly patch 'surface' in space 341 (U15362). I am not sure what it is - the roomfill was the usual mix of everythings, including construction material. And the patches of white plaster were not any more compact than the usual.
Today I continued excavating U15361, going slowly, trying to establish if the plaster fragments actually constitute a floor. The unit expanded to include roomfill from the same layer in space 449, because we noted plaster fragments lying horizontally in the N section, suggesting a floor.
There might be a floor because there were more patches of plaster around the area, lying horizontally and with a similar consistency: one red and one white layer of plaster. Although they are roughly on the same level, they are all disconnected and small. |
