Entry: | The day started better than yesterday as I finished digging my unit – 15358. Unfortunately, the unit, which had begun shrouded in mystery, ended up being mostly a combination of pit fill and room fill with no architecture (walls, etc.) clearly visible. I do have to sweep the unit tomorrow and perhaps something will appear when the surface is finely brushed and spritzed that is not yet apparent. Towards the end of the unit, the soil became much softer and there were several inclusions of gray clay that our ceramic specialist said was the raw material used in ceramic production. The clay caught the edge of my hoe and came out in chunks, which made leveling more difficult.
This was also my first day running the total station, and I was happy that I made it through the morning without any errors on it. However, in the afternoon, I forgot to backsight the machine. Fortunately, I was lucky to catch it with the logic test and was able to re-take the faulty points. This occurring at the end of the day, I ended up not being able to finish sifting and labeling my finds and samples and left them, marked, in the unit. Tomorrow I will be more effective with the machine. |
