Entry: Today I finished drawing U 15370 (roomfill) and U 15343 (cluster of clayballs) in space 449. Afterwards I carefully started excavating Unit 15370, but I didn`t really go down, it was more trying to level out the bump in the center of space 449 that was actually left there last year to protect finds that might be in the roomfill during winter time. It turned out that a large part of space 449 consists of a layer of burned collapsed material (wall plaster), especially concentrated in front of F 3333 and F3324. Only very few clayballs (15343) are showing up, and these aren`t located on the burned collapse, but in a small heap in front of the western part of F 3333, on top of a clay lens that is stretching from the SW-corner of the space along F 5057. The concentration of burned wall plaster will get its own unit number tomorrow, as it very likely represents a deposition - event of its own. Except for some clayballs and several rather large pottery shards the space looks relatively empty. When looking at the way the burned collapse lies in space 449, I could imagine that we have there maybe some kind of temporary surface, but this is just a guess due to a stomach-feeling, and I don`t want to interpret something because I would like to see it but actually it is not there. Seeing the surface is quite a difficult thing, because I can`t excavate without cleaning the space, but brushing the soil creates an artificial surface that can be easily mistaken for something archaeological, what I´m really trying to avoid.
