Excavated hearth surface - [ 3781 ] now down to infill in ‘dirty’ area space 151 everywhere to E. of baulk. Assigned numbers to infill in space 151 [3782] and space 150 [ 3787 ].
Removed small remnant of [ 3708 ] in space 150 that had originally been left in for a micromorphology sample. This had been problematical because it was immediately adjacent to the remnants of a storage bin. Decided anyway that [ 3708 ] as a massive deposit no point in keeping remnant for sample.
Cleaned up and looking at interface between space 150 & 151 - in space 150 an apparent ‘ashy’ grey layer with charcoal and bone fragments which physically under [ 3708 ] - apparently running beneath a plaster floor? layer to the west in space 151. Have yet to assign unit no.s to these. More general clean of trench - will tackle interface between clean/dirty areas in space 151 next and the narrow strip left to the west of the baulk.
Assigned 2 arbitary no.s to deal with the chemical analysis samples taken in the ‘clean’ area 151 and platform in section of N. edge of excavation151. [ 3789 ] & [ 3791 ]. Very time-consuming generally chasing up these samples and assigning them to correct units.Entered By: Richard Turnbull
