Entry: | Yesterday bench 3334 which is sitting on fill visible in section in space 450 and 451, was taken down by M# from the TP team who found the mudbricks (16925) and mortar (16926) quite similar to the material they had in the LN on the East Mound. Taking it down it turned out to abut the buttress 5052, so 3334 is a definitely late addition to building 98, and we might argue 3334 was added to the building after a phase of infill of building 98 which might be connected to EMM's clayball units 15380 etc. The base 3334 was put onto the fill in a stepped manner.
In regard to the phasing of the structures, I find it interesting to note that this bench is made of grey mudbrick and white plaster similar to the walls of space 342, 310=453 and 453=461. We could thus hypothesize that 3334 was built when the SW buildings were constructed. This would well go together with PFB's and my assumption that space 342 was cut into an originally two-rowed wall 5058=3312, thus making the building consisting of space 342 later than the building consiting of spaces 310=453 and 454=461. |
