Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: I continued excavating U15394, tracing the edges of the buttresses in about 30cm depth. The plaster of the buttresses, although clearly visible in the plan, is a bit tricky to trace in depth.

So far, the room fill appears very heterogeneous. Some kinds of material predominate the space in ill-defined patches. The SE corner contained more animal bone than the rest, and the middle W area, in front of buttress F.3338 has a large circular spread of extremely compact reddish mortar, like the mortar from the higher construction phase of the space. I worked my way through the mortar, keeping an eye on the section as I proceeded into the roomfill, just in case the mortar was part of a structure – it doesn't seem to be.

The SE corner is getting clearer: some of the mudbrick patches stand alone and must be the result of collapse. The mudbrick immediately next to the wall seems to be a bit more regular and might be a structure – we will see tomorrow or after.
