Entry: Today was perhaps an especially successful day. Around the site we found a couple of walls, made progress on the burials and we may have found a floor in my pit (F.3331). So finally, the bottom of my pit has been reached. Towards the base there seem to have been more large tiles, which may make sense if heavier material was deposited first.

Underneath the pit, there appears to be a floor (U.16932). The material is very different from that which was found as the fill of the pit above (more creamy grey against the fill's relatively dark brown) and it is on the same level as the point marking the seperation of sp. 310 and sp. 453. Small roots appear to have grown between the fill and the floor which may be quite helpful in marking the boundary. Whether there is some room fill between the pit fill and the floor is at the moment ambiguous; there is more compact material for the last few centimetres above the floor but any colour or inclusion change is very subtle or diffuse. We have for the moment created a new unit for this material (U.16933).

It was certainly nice to feel like I've finally got somewhere with the feature, since with the amount of soil I was moving I wasn't getting a lot that was interesting out of it. After cleaning up the feature/space for a photo I did not have much time to expose the floor any more, so tomorrow will be spent trying to follow it across sp. 454.
