Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: We have continued to excavate the central area of the unit 15360 (space 342) to understand how was organized the concentration of finds (pottery and bones). We observed this area wasn’t homogeneous and there were a lot of perturbations as animal burrows for example. Moreover, we noted that the area seemed to be divided in two parts because of differences of color, consistency and inclusions (less material in the south part). JHB has done a little sondage to understand the area and it seems to these two parts don’t belong to the same depositional unit.

I excavated a probable pit (unit 16937). This fact was visible on the section as an orange quadrangular fill. North south limits seem to be clear but est-west limits aren’t found. Height limit is identified thank to another fill (compact, greyish-brown fill). I left two pieces of light and compact clay witch are very different of the all fill. This fact could be a layer because his limits are not clear. However, fragments of wall are present in the section (limit north of the trench 5) at nearly 10cm and it’s possible that a perturbation between this wall and this “pit” exist. The extension of the excavation could be confirming this hypothesis.
