Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: With JHB, we have excavated the north of the space 342. The central part (u. 16940) was very perturbed by animal burrows and limits of the collapse were unclear. Two news units have been created: unit 16958 on the north-west and unit 16958 on the north-east. We have followed the light compact layer present on the top of the surface. The fill of the central part is quite thick (nearly 20-25cm) and a lot of artifacts was present (mini-cluster of pottery, painted unfired pottery, paint plaster, animal bones, obsidian, few stones). Pottery is composed of big fragments of ceramic and seemed to be crush in situ (some pieces of ceramic witch belong to the same pottery have found nearby). Painted plaster seemed also to be concentrated: we can think about a collapse of walls (mod brick and plaster found in this area).
At the beginning we thought that unit 16958 and unit 16959 could be different but the excavation of these layers showed they belong probably to the same event. Presence of light mod brick could be contemporary of the all collapse but we can imagine walls collapse “cement” a space occupied (pottery in situ, animal bones …). This hypothesis may be supposed that we are approaching of the floor of the room but for the moment any information could be proposed for this way.
