Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: Following on from the discovery of chalcolithic walls instead of a burial yesterday, and as the line of this wall plaster was so clearly visable, today I went into space 454 and removed the rest of the room and pit fill (U.16967) to expose the wall surface. I enjoyed exposing the walls and following the line of plaster although this dissappeared further down the wall as the byzantine pit has undercut the wall. There was a huge quantity of pottery in this unit along with 6 large ground srone objects, a very nice obsidian core, bone pin and lots of animal bone and some human bone probably from the disturbed burial F.3343. The use of a pick axe and hand pick today means that most of the room and pit fill has now been removed but tomorrow the line of the wall needs to be more finely traced and the edge neatened in order to properly understand the shape of the wall and its relationship to the other architectural features in this area.
