Entry: Today we discovered that the wall I had been uncovering (3344) was actually floating on a very homogenous fill and was likely not the wall of room 343 like we had previously thought. This leaves us with two mysteries; to what building does the wall belong—to a later phase of 343 or to another building altogether—and where is the western wall of 343? The second question has an easier hypothesis that the wall remains under the ground. The first question is more problematic and while some have strong opinions that the wall does belong to a later phase 343, I am not so sure. I believe that this question can only be answered by finding the lower section of the western wall of 343 and anything else is just conjecture. Comparisons of brick or mortar type are not convincing enough as the mortar or brick type could be a temporal phenomenon and does not exclude multiple houses using similar styles. Hopefully tomorrow will help provide some answers to these questions.

In the evening, we witnessed a presentation of the mighty power of 3D archaeology. The most exciting thing for me is the ability to easily and visually superimpose layers atop of each other, allowing a replicability and retrospection previously unavailable. While much of what they do still seems beyond the means of most excavations, portions of what they demonstrated would likely be accessible by most digs.
