Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: This unit is a heterogenous room fill layer. We reached the bottom of it today and we noticed a harder layer (of a lighter color) in the bottom. It is more difficult to differentiate the walls from the fill. The only easy spots to aid in this differentiation are the ones containing phytoliths. In the area where this room subsection meets the center of the room, there was a conglomeration of ceramic sherds, containing an almost entire vessel as well. This did not seem to represent any special event, because the soil around it was not distinguishable from the surrounding soil. Plaster slabs of unknown origin (not from the floor) where found everywhere in the layer. I was surprised to notice that the walls did not have clear mud bricks; they seemed more like piles of clay.
