Entry: Well today was not filled with very much excitement. We are continuing to excavate building 43, and I am currently working on space 236 inside of the building. There are so many patches of eroded plaster and floor make ups that make it difficult to a) determine which is which, and b) establish the relationship between all of the layers.

The current layer I am working on is unit 10542, and it is turning out to be a difficult layer of sorts. First of all, we didn't have any trouble establishing its boundaries, which was great, but then as we started to attempt to follow the rest of the layer down it became very difficult. Most of the difficulties associated with removing this layer are due to the fact that the layer is so eroded that when you touch your trowel to it, it crumbles away and you lose that area of the layer. Secondly, unit 10542 that we are attempting to remove happens to be a very thick layer, while the layer underneath is extremely thin and friable. Therefore, it is difficult to remove the top layer without removing the layers underneath.

Needless to say, today was a bit frustrating, and we still have a large portion of unit 10542 to remove in the next few days. However, once this next layer is removed we will be closer to establishing our current goal of maintaining one stratagraphic layer for the building so that we can better determine the relationships. We will see how tomorrow goes.
