Entry: Today I started to work on removal of new buttress (F. 3326) which as unit (16974) was opened much before. As it was defined during the excavation of building 98 the next step was to remove it in order to understand its construction i.e. how it was built between spaces 341 and 449. The buttress was removed gradually from the front part till its back. The main goal was to reach the bottom level where previously a plaster was detected thus suggesting different phase of buttress construction. Comparing to buttress (F.5057 and U.16988) we removed yesterday with JHB, this one was made of filling with less material within, although it had similar consistence: animal bones, obsidian blades, EC pottery and black burnished shards resembling LN pottery. Also two x finds were detected, a worked pottery fragment used for scraping and probable ground stone. In some areas of buttress interior a bulk of untypical material for the filling were included. They were mainly consisted of same material used for plaster although in this case they had not such function. They were probably added as other filling features in order to strengthen the construction.

Although such removal required a lot of digging and transporting the dirt from the building to sieving spot (which if become daily practice it will soon resulted with my Schwarzenegger like body-in his younger ages:-), however I succeed to reach the bottom level which was supposed as possible earlier phase of the buttress or level with relationship with the floor. After the scraping and cleaning this level it was confirmed that there are no elements of this plaster pieces continuing into the buttress interior. Thus, a new level or layer in this construction can not be confirmed. Anyway, tomorrow I continue with cleaning and removing of low buttress remains and hopefully will clarify the mode of its bottom construction and its possible relationship with the floor.

In the morning we were listening to a good Beatles music and a long lasting question again appeared to me. How McCartney who made so many hits with this band couldn’t wrote a real worldwide hit song in his solo career (except Hope of Deliverance and Say Say Say –along with Michael Jackson), while Lennon composed so many legendary and powerful songs still well remembered and sang among different nations (Give Piece Chance, Imagine, Working Class Hero, Jealous Guy etc. )?
